Students will evaluate themselves as individuals and identify their roles in society.
Students will identify their personality traits and showcase those traits via various media.
Students will evaluate themselves as diverse individuals, learners, and community
members.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Introduce the activity by telling students that a major movie producer is auditioning
young people for the starring role in the movie Preparing for a Successful Life. Tell
students that each person has a need to be wanted...for someone to care about him and
value him. The movie will be a story about the ways that young people identify the
characteristics they have that would encourage someone to want each of them as a
friend, a worker, a student, or a star in a movie.
2. Give each student a piece of masking tape and a copy of the movie marquee. Talk for
a moment about the information requested on the marquee. Stress that students
should look for the positive characteristics they possess that would indicate they are
best for the starring role in the movie. We recommend that the teacher fill out one for
himself as an example for the students.
3. It is fun to keep the identity of the student a secret, and let other students guess whose
marquee is whose. Students may answer each item secretly on notebook paper and
then let the teacher actually fill out each marquee, or students may type their answers.
These strategies prevent students from recognizing the handwriting of fellow
students.
