Lesson 1.F. A “Me” T-Shirt LESSON TYPE: Mandatory (YL) Optional (S) SUPPLIES/EQUIPMENT: v v v v v colored markers mini clothes pins yarn glue sample T-shirts with slogans (provided by the teacher) STUDENT HANDOUT(S): Students will evaluate themselves as individuals and identify their roles in society. DESCRIPTORS: Students will evaluate their personality traits and showcase those traits via various media. Students will evaluate themselves as diverse individuals, learners, and community members. ACTIVITIES: 1. Discuss the fad of wearing T-shirts with the students. Mention that we wear T-shirts that tell a lot about ourselves. Our shirts sometimes feature our favorite heroes, characters, teams, singers, slogans, or products. T-shirts can depict or describe anything that may tell about our personalities, likes and dislikes, etc. 2. Some T-shirts have printed messages on them. Display several current T-shirts with printed logos/messages. These messages can make a statement to us or about us. Sometimes you can find part of the message on the front of the shirt and the rest on the back. (Show examples.) 3. Give each student a copy of the front and back T-shirt handouts and markers. Tell them they are to design a T-shirt that tells about features or characteristics, which they have.
