A strong emphasis is placed on the traditional skills of reading, writing and numeracy, but children in the Junior School enjoy a varied curriculum which includes science, art, history, geography, design and technology, religious education, ICT, French and physical education. Recognising the different educational needs of boys and girls means that they continue to be taught separately in the core subjects. The principles of Multiple Intelligence Profiling and Accelerated Learning are used to inform teachers of individual learning styles. Pupils are taught to appreciate that education is as much about attitudes and values as it is about academic and sporting success. The Junior School Code of Conduct provides pupils with a clear set of rules and guidelines to enable them to become responsible members of our community. In the Junior School all pupils are provided with the opportunity to perform in assemblies, plays and musicals, often alongside the rest of the school community. Such opportunities develop pupils’ physical, dramatic and creative skills. Mayville is proud of the self-confidence these activities promote. “Any achievement, big or small, is recognised.” Parent
