Sports Sport promotes teamwork, stirs your child’s competitive spirit, harnesses their determination and instils a sense of fair play. By creating a positive attitude towards physical education amongst our pupils they will be well placed to enjoy sport as part of a healthy lifestyle. Mayville believes that every child can achieve within physical education. Pre-Prep children regularly have ball skills activities in the playground and the hall and compete in their own Sports Day. At Mayville most sports are played off-site at a variety of local venues within walking distance or quickly reached in our fleet of minibuses. Pupils in the Junior and Senior School can experience a wide range of sports including athletics, badminton, cricket, football, gymnastics, netball, rounders, rugby, swimming, tennis, trampolining and volleyball. GCSE physical education is a popular and successful option at KS4 for those wishing to study sport as part of the academic curriculum. With three houses, Austen, Cavell and Nelson, there are a number of inter‑house competitions which promote great team spirit within the school. The ethos is one of taking part and achieving one’s personal best. Despite the small size of the school, it has a reputation for success in local and county competitions, and successful pupils have the opportunity to represent Portsmouth and Hampshire. Where pupils are particularly talented the school endeavours to support their training needs and competition commitments at county and national level. At Mayville there are a wide variety of extra curricular clubs available throughout the year and pupils who show potential are directed towards local clubs to further their sporting development. 15
