The other tests performed monthly at public pools are bacteriological tests This is to ensure there
are no harmful bacteria in the swimming pool that may lead to illness such as diarrhoea, abdominal
pain, fever, and sometimes vomiting. These tests are Escherichia coli, commonly referred to as e-coli,
Total Coliforms and Heterotrophic Plate Count. These tests aim to have a nil result. Generally, if a
pool is regularly maintained and disinfected with chlorine, then these tests will always be 0. Whew!

Are there algae growing on the pool walls? This could be an indication service frequency and the
addition of chlorine is insufficient.
