More Mega Projects Expected in Second Quarter
More mega infrastructure and
property developments are
expected to be launched in the
second quarter of this year, said
Works Minister Datuk Fadillah
Yusof.
He said that construction sector
growth remained firm at 9.6%,
led by the civil engineering and
residential sub-sectors.
He added that this growth was
supported by the progress
completion of many construction
works awarded in 2012 to 2013,
particularly the Klang Valley Mass
Rapid Transit Line 1.
“In the second quarter of 2014,
we would expect more mega
infrastructure and property
developments to be launched
that will support the sector’s
growth,” he said in his speech
before launching the Asean
M&E (Mechanical, Electrical and
Engineering) Show 2014 at Kuala
Lumpur Convention Centre
recently.
He noted Malaysia’s economy was
expected to grow at a stronger pace
between 5% and 5.5% this year on
firm domestic demand and recovery
in exports.
He said private investment was
expected to continue its doubledigit growth supported by
accelerated implementation of
ongoing Economic Transformation
Programme projects.
On the Asean M&E Show 2014,
Fadillah said the event provided
ample opportunities for regional
mechanical and engineering
industrialists to meet with global
suppliers of raw materials,
machinery, packaging solutions and
contract services.
He noted that Malaysia served as a
meeting point between Asia, SouthEast Asia and Europe to promote
and market effectively products
related to new technologies and
innovation.
