The new BMW i8
Not bad for an electric sports car
We spoke to Kevin who’s a BMW expert and representative to find out
some more information about this wonderful car.
Before mentioning any of the fancy technical stuff, the car itself is just absolutely astonishingly beautiful. The i8 follows the BMW i design philosophy which allows the for the creation of something that’s not only sustainable but also has character. Like any other car by any manufacturer the i series has signature design characteristics like the black belt that runs from
the front of the car, over the body to the back. To make it more striking it
features U-shape LED running lights and a very carefully selected use of
sustainably manufactured lightweight materials. To add to the real sports
car design ideas, it has a long wheel-base with very short overhangs, it
spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel to be as aerodynamic as possible. To
top it all off, the i8 comes with scissor doors that swing upwards when
opening.
Now you’ll be very surprised to know that the i8 only has a 1.5l engine,
however it is a TwinPower turbo petrol 1.5l engine which gives off a roar
which could easily be mistaken for a V8. It can do 0-62 mph in just 4.4 seconds and even when driven fast you can still get around 40mpg. The top
speed is limited to 155mph, we’re not sure why but here in the UK you
wouldn’t want to get caught bombing it down the road in this thing as it
would be a real shame to get this taken away from your or even losing your
licence so you couldn’t drive it again.
For comfort and usability it comes with 4 driving modes: e-Drive (Electric
Driving), Comfort, Eco-Pro and Sport a
