Barbados Council for the Disabled http://barbadosdisabled.org.bb/ The Barbados Council for the Disabled was established in 1976 and advocates on behalf of persons with various disabilities from all walks of life. The council provides accessible transportation, braille translations, sign language interpreters, beach wheelchairs, and much more. They also conduct property assessment with the aim of creating a barrier-free environment and host educational sessions to create a more inclusive Barbados. The charity provides a haven for patients and their families. Duke of Edinburgh International Award I Am A Girl Barbados The Award was introduced in Barbados in 1963, through the Council for Voluntary Social Services. The Award provides young people with skills and experiences that are consistently recognised by employers and educational institutions worldwide. I Am a Girl Barbados, was officially launched in October 2014 and was created to support young “at risk” girls. The charity seeks to empower these girls throughout their overall growth into adulthood with guidance and support.
