Critical minutes in the air

to Heaven

halfway to heaven must be secured in every step of the operation . The actual lift can not take more than an hour if the safety margins are to be kept . Weather conditions are observed on an hour by hour basis on this normally quite windy place .

Every section of the mast is prepared with attachment strings and the bolts and the wires are loosed from the mast and from the ground simultaneously . Several sections can be lifted in the same operation , but weight , wind and other preconditions makes calculation necessary for each specific lift .
Firmly positioned on a big mossy stone on some distance from the mast , Thomas Olofsson is giving instructions over the radio headset to Niklas and Jonatan in the top of the mast . His coolness is remarkable even when the meticulous plan has to be revised at some point . The entire crew is quite senior in the high altitude business and they also give courses in climbing and climbing security .
On day two the weather is ideal and the helicopter arrives at punctually at 9 o ’ clock . A new safety brief is held . Everyone goes to their stations . The time schedule holds , within an hour the 11 sections of the mast and a few kilometers of cables and wires are neatly placed on the ground a few hundred meters from the concrete base .
