Levada walk and wicker basket making DAY THREE Walk under the clouds. View of the valley. We set off early with our picnics and it was beautiful weather. We took a coach with our friends and travelled upwards to visit the heart of the islands – Curral das Freiras and walked up to the Eira do Serrado viewpoint. We saw the most beautiful panoramic views of the valley from all directions. We could see the ‘Nuns Valley’ where history has it that nuns fled there to live to seek protection from pirates! We bought a treat at the gift shop of chestnut cake and biscuits (to add to our picnic) which were delicious. We then visited Areiro Peak and saw lizards and centipedes and more beautiful views before heading to Serra do Faial to follow the Levada. Once more the views were spectacular and we saw lots of beautiful flowers and birds in Laurel Forest. We even got to feed them from our hands! Feeding bis-bis Wicker basket making workshop Lizard from Ariero Peak Our final stop was to take part in a wicker basket making workshop which was a great experience. Everyone concentrated really well and came away with a souvenir. We had an amazing day and our Portuguese friends had planned this day to perfection.
