resurgence
"I'm from Nigeria"
Such trivial words right?
Yet those three words are
To some, a taboo
To some, words of shame
And to some, a mirage.
I met a guy once
He was obviously Nigerian
Everything about him indicated so
His colour, speech and accent
But he was in denial and he'd say
"I refuse to belong to a hopeless country"
They say being a Nigerian is a stigma
I'd tell you it’s an honour
They say we're irreparable and incorrigible
But really, we're curable and remediable
To them we've failed and that's that
Only, they're imperceptive of our resurgence
Nigeria is going nowhere, they'd say
But Nigeria is going places, I'd scream
They say they can't see it
But maybe they're just blind
Because all they see are our flaws
