As immigrants came in by the millions from Europe and other places, the American population increased drastically. The poor lived in terrible living and working conditions and they worked 12+ hours a day. Meanwhile, Boss Tweed and the rich Big Businesses continued to grow corrupt daily. The middle-class and other reformers saw the social, economical, political, and environmental problems in the US, and the started many individual movements that all came out to be the Progressive Movement.
