Upton Sinclair

Upton Sinclair was born September 20th, 1878 and was considered one of the best writers of his time. Sinclair mainly wrote novels on social protests and also wrote political pieces. As a child, Sinclair lived in a poverty ridden city in Baltimore, but he also often visited his mother's wealthy relatives in Maryland. The major difference between the rich and the poor was troubling for him and was the main idea in many of his books. His most famous book, "The Jungle", exposed the meatpacking industries of mistreating their workers and selling bad meat. I got so much attention that it helped to pass the country's first Pure Food and Drug Laws, but sadly didn't change the treatment of the workers as it was intended.
