All I want for Christmas ... . is a home . These were the words oflndia White , an at-risk youth born to a family of 10 children . Growing up in low SES , life was not easy for India . Determined and hardworking , India was able to preserve to be an overcomer . A Sarasota Native , India endured hardships including paternal alcoholism , and physical and emotional abuse as a growing adolescent . At the age of 16 , India was kicked out of the house on Christmas Eve , and lived in the YMCA Homeless shelter her last two years of high school . She suffered the loss of four family members , including her grandmother and brother Timmy while homeless .
Although India had many reasons to give up , she endured and was granted 17 scholarships to college , including a full ride from Bill Gates as a Gates Millennium Scholar . She attended the University of Florida and was in the Gator Marching Band . As a math major , India became a math teacher and was selected to be Teacher of the Year in 2014 at Gaither High School in Tampa , Florida . India continued to pursue higher education and obtained her M . Ed in Educational Leadership , and was shortly after promoted to Assistant Principal in HCPS .
As an administrator , India served as the 1st V . P. of Hillsborough Alliance of Black School Educators , an organization that grants scholarships for all African American learners in HCPS who are college ready . She also served as a motivational speaker for various organizations , including YMCA , Take Stock in Children ( T SIC ), National Association of Professional Women ( NAPW ), International Women League Association ( IWLA ), Dreamfaith foundation , Economic Club of Tampa and more .
India continued her pursuit of higher education as a McKnight Doctoral Fellow in 2015 , where she is pursuing a M . Ed in Educational Leadership . As a doctoral student , India was awarded the Golden Key Award as an International Scholar . She continued to pay it forward and began her own businesses , Tutoring Incentives and Mentoring Program Inc . and Rising Glory Productions , LLC . India ' s life is centered around helping others by the grace of God , and she is excited to continue being a story of hope for the broken while tagging along with other great leaders in her community .

With a desire to inspire and work with others , India has become a new published author . She has a book series called , " How to Overcome Obstacles from Your Past ", " Success in a Book ", and has just released an Overcomer ' s Workbook / Trainer ' s series , which has helped many leaders and people on their way to overcome . In Senator Marco Rubio ' s book " American Dreams ", he wrote that India and her life ' s experiences is an Inspirational Story for America .
