On February 21 at the Pat Thomas Academy , the 2014 Ebony & Ivory Affair will be hosted by the Gadsden County Democratic Women ’ s Club . This year ’ s theme is “ Working Together To Turn Florida Blue ”. A spokesperson for the planning committee stated : “ Black History and Democracy are as interdependent Ask Demetria as the : No ebony date and ? No ivory keys on a piano problem . Black . This black tie affair is being held in recognition of the advancements that we have made together . All segments of our community are invited .”

The elegant evening will begin with a VIP reception at 6pm where guests will be entertained by the Sounds of Gadsden in a live premier performance of jazz and rhythm & blues music . The reception will afford the community with a stellar-type opportunity to personally meet and greet the President of the Florida Chapter of the Democratic Women ’ s Club , the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party and several candidates for state and local office in 2014 . There will also be a display and silent auction of some wonderful Black Art .

Beginning at 7pm , guests attending the Dinner Program will enjoy a scrumptious meal , outstanding performers and speakers , and witness the historic presentations of the very first “ Patricia Stephens Due Legends Award ”, “ Vivian Davis Kelly Community Advocate Award ” and the “ Estella M . McGriff Democratic Woman of the Year Award ”. These awards are named in honor of three black women from Gadsden County who worked for democracy in this nation , state and county .
