Operation Tum-A-Round
In 1989 while the Principal at Eugene J . Butler Middle School , Theresa Hodge create an unheard of concept to aid in developing the minds of youth call Operation Tum-A-Round . Designed as an after-school program targeting the Potential At-Risk student ranging from ages 10 - 15 , the goal was to develop the Potential Achiever that is found in every student . The students referred into the program participated in academic tutoring , conflict resolution , counseling , double dutch , drama , mentor / mentoring , the Oprah Winfrey Wall of Fame Essay Contest , parental involvement and participation , field trips , planned sessions from businesses , lawyers , police agencies , and sports programs including basketball , golf , softball and tennis . Operation Tum-A-Round is still operating today in neighborhoods across Jacksonville lead by Theresa Hodge its Founder and Director .
