“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:” Isaiah 53:3 I recently spoke with a person about a tragic moment in their life after church one Sunday. And I was hurt by the fact that no one at their home church had taken the time to do Grief Counseling with them. This is a dangerous situation especially here in the Jacksonville area where so many tragic events are taking place daily. Grief Counseling is an extremely important part of ministry! There are many who have to deal with tragic events by themselves, and they don’t deal with grief well at all. Many churches don’t offer Grief Counseling and don’t have anyone who is trained to deal with grief. What this does is force the grieving person to deal with grief in the manner that Christ did, all on their own! The problem is that they are not nearly as strong and able to do so as Christ was. Christ was able to go up into the mountains where he was ministered to by angels. Most people today are not that strong, that’s why the church is to be that support for those who are dealing with grief.
