“ GOD ’ S TIMETABLES ”

I remember my early years of school in those math classes at John G . Riley Elementary School . The first things that we learned were addition , subtraction , division and then we were taught our timetables . My mind ran back the other day to the Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 which says , “ To everything there is a season , and a time to every purpose under the heaven ”. This great passage was written by David ’ s son , Solomon , who was considered the wisest man in the bible not because of the time in which he lived , but because he allowed God to become first priority in his life .

These are God ’ s Timetables :

0x = Revelation 7:9 tells us that “ After this I beheld , and lo a great multitude , which no man could number , of all the nations , and kindred , and people and tongues , stood before the Lamb , clothed with white robes , and palms in their hands ”. We need to know that we have an inclusive God .

1x = Exodus 20 : 2-3 says “ I am the Lord thou God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of bondage . Thou shalt have no other God before me .” This means One Lord , One Faith and One Baptism .

2x = St . John 1:14 says “ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory , the glory as of the only begotten of the Father , full of grace and truth ”. Jesus Christ has two natures , he is divine and human .

3x = God has three attributes of power . He is all knowing , all powerful and everywhere at the same time . St . John 1:1 says “ In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God , and the Word was God ”. Solomon found out that his eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me .

4x = There are four gospels : Matthew Mark , Luke and John . In Matthew we see the roots of Jesus , in Mark we see the servitude of Jesus , in Luke we see the diversity of Jesus and in John we see the love of Jesus .

5x = David picked up five smooth stones to fight Goliath ( Samuel 17:40 ). We need to eat the fruits of the spirit which are love , joy , peace , longsuffering and faith ( Galatians 5:22 ).

6x = In Exodus Chapter Twenty the Lord created heaven and the earth , and then he rested . Revelation14:13 says “ Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord . From henceforth : Yea , says the spirit that they may rest from their labor and their work do follow them ”.

7x = Seven represents spiritual completeness and perfection . There are seven days in one week . No prayer makes a child of God weak . The seven churches in Asia Minor show us a specific message and present us with a yardstick in which to measure the church of Jesus Christ .

8x = Represents the eight people left after the flood , Noah , his wife , their three sons and their wives . The songwriter says “ Like a ship that ’ s tossed and driven , battered by the angry see , when the storm of life is raging and the billows fall on me . I wondered what have I done to make

this race so hard to run and then I say to my soul take courage , the Lord will make a way somehow ”.

9x = Represents the nine lepers who did not come back to tell Jesus thanks for healing them . The Word of God says “ In everything give thanks ”.

10x = Represents the ten virgins who went to the wedding . Five were wise and five were foolish . As did Solomon , we sometimes make some wise decisions and some foolish decisions . However , the songwriter says “ I ’ ve decided to make Jesus my choice ”.

11x = Represents the happy hour of the Christian faith on Sunday mornings at 11:00 AM . Many may consider from 5:00 – 8:00 PM their happy hour on Fridays but David said “ I was glad when they said unto me ; let us go into the House of the Lord ”.

12x = Represents the Disciples of Jesus . The Lord has a job for each of us to do ; we have a charge to keep and a God to glorify .
