I was once told that for many , books are as important as almost anything else on earth . What a miracle it is that out of these small , flat , rigid pieces of paper unfolds world after world . Books serve many purposes ; some help us understand who we are and how we are to behave . Others show us what community and friendship means as well as how to live . Books can take you places where real life might not ever take you . Books give us attention to amazing details that we miss in our day to day activities . That is an author ’ s responsibility , to make you notice , make you pay attention , and to make you think .
