Today , through her small business , HIM Professional Excellence , Inc ., Dwan primarily promotes all aspects of HIM by serving as a Healthcare Consultant . She performs Interim Leadership , Assessments , Subject Matter Expertise , Project Management and even Career Enhancement Services via Resume Facelifts , performing mock interviews for job candidates and a bit of career coaching . The majority of her clients for the career- enhancing services are women . Dwan believes in uplifting other professionals to help them find and maximize their potential . Thus , she incorporates her Golden Nuggets ( Mantras to Live By ) into everything she touches . She has countless mentees , clients , colleagues , friends , students and affiliates to attest to her magnanimity .
As if her work schedule , which includes the typical consultant travel schedule on Monday-Thursday , is not robust enough , Dwan also holds several adjacent roles . She currently serves on the Board of Directors for her national professional association - The American Health Information Management Association ( AHIMA ). This Chicago headquartered association administers the credentials for Coders , CDI and other HIM Professionals , providing continuing education and supporting services . She applies her 30 + years of experience to assist in providing strategic direction for her profession . During her tenure , she has chaired the Audit Committee and presently chairs the Governance Committee . ConcurrentlY, she also serves on the Kingdom Scholastic Center of Excellence Board in Jacksonville , Florida . Dwan has served in many volunteer roles and participated in several community-based activities .
Education has always been a passion . Dwan holds a MBA from Webster University as well as a Bachelor ' s of Science in Health Information Administration from the University of Central Florida . In addition , she is a registered health information administrator ( RHIA ), certified coding specialist ( CCS ), AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM and PCS trainer and a certified documentation improvement practitioner ( CDIP ). Dwan continues to have strong ties to Florida State College of Jacksonville where she served as adjunct instructor for the HIT program for many years . She is still on their Advisory Board and is the alternate instructor of record . She has formed lasting relationships with her students and answers their calls day and night . She believes that you are never finished learning and truly promotes life-long learning for all . This line of thinking is consistent with her pursuit of excellence in all she does .
