Medical Humanitarian Assistance to Africa

“ This is truly one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life … One I will forever cherish .”
November 2022 , Peter Bright joined a team of Medical Doctors , Nurses and Technicians from Darmouth College , Hanover , New Hampshire on a trip to African to provide treatment and health care to underserved residents . “ Our efforts were concentrated in Gisenyi , a town on the north shore of Lake Kivu , in northwestern Rwanda ,” Peter explains .
The Rwanda people are divided into two main groups : the Hutu , traditionally farmers ; and the Tutsi , traditionally cattle-owning pastoralists . A small third group , the Pygmy Twa , are hunters and potters . Rwanda is renowned for its rare mountain gorillas , with some 400 gorillas roaming the rainforest .
“ Training and helping the people in Africa was more than I could have ever imagined , Peter exclaims . “ It was heartening to see how so many people , men , women and children lined up for the help . They were willing to wait in line hours to get the medical attention for themselves and their families . Something we in America take far too often for granted .”
Most of the training we supplied was in the field of Gastrointestinal . We trained local GI to better find in their patients Cancer , Ulcers , and Intestinal Issues which is one of the main environmental problem areas in this region . The relationships forged by all the medical professionals from across the world in this tiny portion of humanitarian healthcare will forever hold a place in our hearts . Hopefully , some of the individuals we served will one day themselves become healthcare professionals .
