WordCamp Jacksonville 2019 celebrated its 4th year of dynamic speakers that shared information to empower , educate and inspire the over 200 people in attendance . Celebrated as one of the transformative technology conferences in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida , the past 4 years .
Held at Keiser University , the diversity of " tracks " for Developer , User and Marketing allowed those attending to learn from industry experts . One of the popular components of Word Camp is the KidsCamp attended by 25 youth and kids that participated in STEAM activities and concluded with the kids and youth building their own web sites on WordPress . com platform . KidsCamp allowed kids and youth from 7 to 14 who are interested in WordPress , coding , programming and web development to network , collaborate and learn from each other and the adults with diverse backgrounds in business and technology . The Organizers and Educators William Jackson and Aida Correa both technology business owners and educators with combined 60 years of educational experience guided the kids and youth through a full day of activities :

William Jackson , M . Ed and Aida Correa encouraged building critical and higher order thinking skills , ________________________ __. collaboration and acceptance of diversity in culture , gender and color . Built into the curriculum are matrix to assist youthwith learning challenges , helping them to feel welcomed , accepted and to have fun in learning . The kids , youth and their parents worked together and had a blast with the theme of the Beach and Pirates . William and Aida provided hats , eye patches , head bandanas and music to set the tone for fun and learning . From singing pirate songs to using Lego blocks , paper towel tubes , and other materials to build their projects it was an engaged , active and even noisey learning experience that will not be forgotten .
The attending kids and youth attended public , private and charter schools across Georgia and Florida and several kids had international experience from China and Europe . Having the experiences as public school and community educators helped William and Aida to create an inclusive environment that welcomed diversity in abilities both physical , emotional and mental . Inclusiveness is a key component for William and Aida , they understand that children learn differently , receive information either as verbal , auditory , hands-on and engaged learners .
Both provide community technology workshops with the Jacksonville Public Library and the Microsoft Store to help build digital leaders in the community . William , an African American male educator and business owner and Aida , Latina of Afro-Latina heritage understand fully that representation matters , so their presence can inspire children of color and culture to enter into STEAM careers and aspire to be business owners as well .
