Today I Saw A Butterfly

Today I saw a butterfly in all its splendidness and array . Its color glimmered in the noonday sun sparkling red , orange , yellow beams of glory as its wings insentiently glid upon a breeze . Briefly establishing residence upon a single leaf blushing royal beauty amidst the evergreen . With the softness of a breath it lifts , floats and splendors .
What amazed me most about this moment is my knowledge of how this butterfly came to be . Conceived as a winter egg and hatched into a spring caterpillar . This unattractive worm risk its life with a slow motion crawl from tree to tree seeking leaves for nourishment while dodging the view of birds and other predators for survival . Life is not at its best at this stage in time . Growth however is and the caterpillar must increase in size several thousand times in order to transcend to the next level of development .
Overcoming the obstacles of growth and survival , the caterpillar seeks the shelter of the underlining of a leaf to develop a cocoon where it prepares for its most crucial stage . This is down-time , quiet-time , a period of resting , moments of reflection , a time to dream dreams . Within the cocoon the caterpillar is isolated . Blocked from the light it has grown so accustomed to , it appears all is lost and this burial tomb is the last .
It has been said the darkest hour is just before dawn and what appears to be an end is only a new beginning . Both statements are true for this caterpillar locked in its own cocoon totally reinventing its form , structure and function in this process of development . No one knowing , no one watching . In solitude making life altering changes .

Then the day of awakening and transitioning . The prison shell of the cocoon that locked-in your essence and locked-out your obscurity began to crack and fall from around you . You notice change … your feet , your shape , your size , your color , your wings … your wings … your wings !
You unfold them and stretch them out noticing their frame , texture , layers and beauty . What am I ? What have I become ? The wind catches those wings and lifts you … lifts you over all your past troubles and obstacles . You see the dangerous trails you once had to travel . You look down on those creatures that sought to devour your life for their satisfaction . The task of obtaining the food needed for survival you now maneuver with ease . You are a new creature - a butterfly . Old things are passed away . All things are become new .
