He also served in the United States Marine Corp from 1971 until 197 4 . After serving his country , he attended Bethune-Cookman College / University , graduating in 1978 with Bachelor of Science degree . He also graduated from St . Thomas , University in Miami , Florida in 1987 with a master ' s of science degree . In 2011 , Booker earned his Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership . He is a member of Omega Phi fraternity , Inc .
