There was not a word spoken on television , nor a word written in the newspapers even though this month marks the anniversary of one of the most exhilarating presidential campaign in our nation ' s history . Against all odds and promises swore by the most powerful that he would not be reelected , Barack Obama ' s victory adverted a loss that would have rendered his presidency a failed one-term accident . Voters bought into the Hope of his first campaign , this time they were evaluating and grading him on performance .
What was crucial and mostly at stake with this election was America ' s Future . Whether this present course was permanent or temporary . Is national healthcare a reality or fading dream ? With the country more polarized than ever , lines were drawn never to be crossed and the fight was long , negative and nasty . There was no black or white , male or female , rich or poor , all disappeared into the Red and Blue .
There were many factors attributing to President Obama ' s reelection . One most noteworthy is the fact that Obama won the lowest percentage of the white vote than any winning Democratic candidate in history . What this means is America is changing . The white share of the electorate continues to go down with each presidential election . Barack Obama was reelected because he won over 80 percent of the nonwhite vote of the electorate . This means that in the future anyone aspiring to win a national election will have to gain some of those votes Obama got and the Republicans did not get .
This election also brought to an end the rei gn of the Good Ole ' Boy where money and power equaled influence and control . There was a time there was only one message and that was the one the major networks gave , and that message was controlled by the selected few . Facebook and Twitter was the two-edge sword that put to an end this mass manipulation . Everyday people could and did voice their opinions at each debate and incident of the election which rallied clustered of independent thinking groups which numbered in the millions . It was no longer about what they think and feel but how we think and feel .
All America sat still that election night facing serious issues ; the economy , unemployment and taxes at the forefront . The results finally can in way past midnight . Obama wins . Not with every vote - Obama wins . Not a landslide - Obama wins . Still a Democracy - Obama wins .
Today , one year after this great election with so many passionately concerned and motivated , our nation is awaken with new sense of participation which should spark a renaissance of advancement is every area of society . We know this not to be the case , instead we stare at those polarized lines we drew in the sand and hold tight to our bitterness with no regards to throwing out the baby with the bathwater . They say cream rises to the top . American will move on but only by those who choose to be mature and responsible stewards for the well-being of our nation for the future generations we promised it to .
Let ' s move forward with the words spoken by Barack Obama on Wednesday , November 6 , 2012 in the early morning hours of his new presidency . First he promised :
For the United States of America the best is yet to come . But despite all our differences , most of us share certain hopes for Americas fitture . We want our kids to grow up in a country where they have access to the best schools and the best teachers .
A country that lives up to its legacy as the global leader in technology and discovery and innovation , with all the good jobs and new businesses that follow .
We want our children to live in an America that isn ' t burdened by debt , that isn 't weakened by inequality, that isn ' t threatened by the destructive power of a warming planet .
We want to pass on a country thats safe and respected and admired around the world , a nation that is defended by the strongest military on earth and the best troops this -- this world has ever known .
America , I believe we can build on the progress we ' ve made and continue to fight for new jobs and new opportunity and new security for the middle class . I believe we can keep the promise of our founders , the idea that if you ' re willing to work hard , it doesn 't matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or where you love . It doesn ' t matter whether you ' re black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor , able , disabled, gay or straight , you can make it here in Americ if you ' re willing to try .
I believe we can seize this future together because we are not as divided as our politics suggests . We ' re not as cynical as the pundits believe . We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions , and we remain more than a collection of red states and blue states . We are and forever will be the United States of America .
