The Navy afforded James the opportunity to visit places all over the world that he had only read about or saw in the movies . He had the opportunity to explore places like Africa , Spain , France , Japan , Hong Kong , France , London and Egypt just to name a few . James also completed a twoyear tour at the Pentagon as service to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations .

James ' mother instilled discipline , hard work and responsibility in her three children and , is very proud to have accomplished her goal of seeing them all grown-up , taking care of themselves and all successfully retired at an early age . While in the Navy James married Beatrice Lynette Standley , they will celebrate their 25 th wedding anniversary this year and are the proud parents of two sons Johnnie and David .
Service to the Youth
James continues to be a servant today . He volunteers and mentors young men via various organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters through the United Way ; Achievers For Life and Communities in Schools to name a few . He tends to focus primarily on mentoring young African American men because he believes there is no one better than an African American man to be an example for a young African American man .
To provide further assistance to the community James volunteered this past September to sponsor a real estate booth at the Jacksonville Free Press ' Fish , Grits and Politics event held at Edward Waters College where he was able to assist hundreds of guests with real estate information and answered the questions of many guests as they attended the event .
As a mentor James volunteers at under-served public schools where there ' s a high ratio of African American young men . He has served most at Highlands Middle School and Northwestern Middle School .
Service in Real Estate
Now in his retirement years , James keeps his professional wheels turning as a Real Estate Broker at ERA Davis & Linn Real Estate and is one of the top local real estate brokers in the area . He volunteers and provides his real estate services by holding seminars to provide potential homebuyers and sellers with information and assistance that will benefit them when the time comes .
