Ben Frazier

The Architect of a More Harmonious Jacksonville

Ben Frazier is well known nationally , as a broadcast journalist . In 1979 this broadcast pioneer became the first African American to anchor a major television news show in Jacksonville . He was the sole anchor on WJXT-TV- 4 ' s Eyewitness News at Noon . As an investigative news reporter Frazier also reported on the city ' s controversial Affirmative Action Program .
Today Ben Frazier is blazing a new trail as a Community Activist . He is President and Founder of the Northside Coalition of Jacksonville ( NCOJ ), an organization with more than 2,000 online supporters , more than any other local civil rights organization . " We ' re a rapidly growing organization attempting to address the issues that are confronting a section of the city which has been routinely ignored " Ben explains .

" We are working hard to assist the community in establishing new strategies , objectives , and the metrics of progress , benchmarks , and priorities . We must begin to chart and measure our progress . We are looking at short term and long term solutions in the areas of safety , police accountability , education , economics , and health ." The Northside Coalition of Jacksonville is a young and dynamic organization . Under Frazier ' s direction , NCOJ has earned the respect of elected officials , law enforcement , business professionals , the faith community and people from all walks of life . " As an organization , NCOJ is committed to accepting the baton in the relay race of civil rights history . We are committed to leading the fight against social and racial injustice . I used to hold my mother ' s hand as she marched in civil rights demonstrations in downtown Jacksonville ," says Frazier .
