A MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER Rene Menard ‘88 Welcome to the 2018-2019 edition of the Thornton Academy Program of Studies. You might think of this booklet as your map to a remarkable school experience. What kind of school year do you want? Students at TAMS, you will see that a small school can offer big opportunities. You can be on the yearbook staff or act in the spring musical; there are sports teams, musical groups, and art activities; you might even take a class at the upper school. At TAMS there are plenty of ways to plan your school experience to match your abilities, interests, and talents. Upper school students, you can enhance your school year by adding an elective class like Maine Fish & Wildlife, or trying a new language like Chinese or Arabic. Challenge yourself with honors or AP classes. You can be adventurous outside the classroom too; there are many sports, clubs and activities to choose from. So many choices are in your hands. Will you seize the chance to step “outside the box” to expand your world? At Thornton Academy, we believe that a comprehensive program makes a difference in students’ lives. Academics are vital to a successful school experience but a full and active student life should be about more than just the core subjects. Schools should be places that offer many chances to connect with the world, think about diverse ideas, and work with talented teachers. We want to be that kind of school for every student. Thornton Academy has built on more than two centuries worth of experience in education to build the program we provide to students and families just like yours. Take advantage of all that Thornton Academy has to offer. This Program of Studies is the starting point to personalizing your Thornton Academy experience. * * * * * * * * THE SCHOOL COUNSELING DEPARTMENT Director Kelley Hodgman-Burns: 207-602-4487 (or) [email protected] Middle School Haley Carter: 207-602-4489 (or) [email protected] Freshman and Junior Team (Classes of 2022 & 2020) Jeff Camire: 207-602-4412 (or) [email protected] Abby More: 207-602-4413 (or) [email protected] Kelsey Ramsey: 207-282-3361, ext 8270 (or) [email protected] Sophomore and Senior Team (Classes of 2021 & 2019) Mark DeFrancesco: 207-602-4411 (or) [email protected] Sarah Tibbetts: 207-602-4415 (or) [email protected] Lucretia Wallace: 207-602-4414 (or) [email protected] International Team Melanie Serrano: 207-391-6997 (or) [email protected] Steve Turgeon: 207-602-4416 (or) [email protected] 3
