Courtesy Gagosian Gallery “An artist who is part science, part circus and altogether unique.” ART IN AMERICA NGV INTERNATIONAL Fri 10 Oct – Mar 2015 10am – 5pm Closed Tue 14 Oct FREE melbournefestival.com.au/golden WORLD PREMIERE Artist Carsten Höller works to turn reality on its head, creating situations through which we can reimagine how we move through the world and reconsider our place in it. Drawing on social spaces outside the museum, such as the amusement park, zoo, or playground, the interactions that Höller proposes through objects and situations open up a range of new and unexpected sensory revelations in art. Underscoring this year’s microtheme of circus, the spectacular life-size Golden Mirror Carousel offers visitors to Federation Court a powerfully different physical and mental encounter than its traditional fairground counterpart. With each slow turn, participants are carried further into a gleaming, gilded looking-glass reflection, a step and a world away. With the assistance of Gagosian Gallery. MEET THE ARTIST – FREE Sun 12 Oct at 5.30pm NGV INTERNATIONAL, GREAT HALL Carsten Höller appears in conversation with Louise Neri, Melbourne Festival Creative Associate – Visual Arts, and NGV contemporary art curator Simon Maidment.
