Heiner Goebbels discusses his
work as a composer and director
across his multifaceted and
illustrious career. (See page 97)
One of the true living legends of
the European artistic landscape,
Heiner Goebbels has been the
recipient of a slew of awards across
a brilliant, multifaceted career. His
restlessly inventive works range
easily across the borders between
artistic disciplines, spanning music,
theatre and the visual arts with
equal aplomb.
Last seen at Melbourne Festival in
2010 with his compelling Stifter’s
Dinge, this year the celebrated
maverick returns with a powerful
new offering produced by the
Ruhrtriennale arts festival, of
which Goebbels is currently
Artistic Director.
An epic-scale production featuring
40 young singers from worldrenowned Vocal Theatre Carmina
Slovenica, this captivating blend
of dance, spoken word and song –
spanning traditional choral works
to indie pop – is a radiant, stirring
meditation on the transition
from youth to adulthood, and
an enigmatic vision of the end of
innocence.
