ACCESS INFORMATION BOOKING TICKETS Visual Symbols The best way to purchase tickets if you have any access requirements is to contact the venue directly. All the venue box office details are listed on the Booking Information page of this guide. The visual symbol provides an indicator for the level of visual elements in a performance to assist in determining if the event is accessible for audience members who are deaf or hard of hearing. Please notify the venue ticketing staff of all access requirements when booking to ensure that suitable seating is allocated and access arrangements are made so staff can provide the best experience possible. REQUESTING AUSLAN INTERPRETING AND AUDIO DESCRIPTION SERVICES Auslan Sign Language Interpreting Audio Description To assist the Festival in planning our Auslan Interpreting and Audio Description activities we ask you to make a request for these services. To make a request please visit our website at melbournefestival.com.au/access, email [email protected] or call (03) 9662 4242. The deadline for requests is 31 August 2012. Requests do not require payment but once the requested performance date and time is confirmed payment must be made to ensure booking. Terms and conditions apply. PATRONS WHO ARE DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING Assistive Listening This symbol indicates that sound amplification systems are available for people who are hard of hearing. A hearing system is available at Arts Centre Melbourne and The Malthouse, providing coverage to all seats via headphones or neckloops through an FM signal, and a unit can be requested from the ushering staff. PATRONS WHO ARE BLIND OR HAVE LOW VISION Audio Description Audio Description is a narration of the visual elements of a live theatre performance for people with low or no vision. Through the use of a small radio receiver and earphone, patrons can listen to concise descriptions of costumes, stage settings and actions, expressions as they are transmitted live in between the dialogue. The Festival may provide Audio Description on request – visit melbournefestival.com.au/access for more information. PHYSICAL ACCESS Every effort has been made to ensure that Melbourne Festival events are accessible for people who use wheelchairs or who have limited mobility. Wheelchair Access If this symbol is not displayed, access may be limited. Attendance at free and non-allocated seating events may be more difficult for people with limited mobility. For assistance at an event without allocated seating please contact the Festival. Greater Union Cinemas Only certain screenings at Greater Union Cinemas are wheelchair accessible. Before purchasing your ticket please check the listing on the Festival website to confirm access details. To ensure the best possible service, please discuss all access requirements with ticketing staff when booking. Companion Card Some people with a disability require the assistance of a companion to access venues. Melbourne Festival offers a second ticket at no cost to Companion Card holders who purchase tickets for Festival-controlled events through Ticketmaster or venue box offices (not available for internet bookings). Carer Card The Carer Card provides support for unpaid carers in Victoria. Melbourne Festival recognises carers by offering card holders a 25% concession to most Festival performances. Tickets must be purchased through Ticketmaster or venue box offices (not available for internet bookings) and the card must be presented at the venue.
