The Bar Has Been Raised for Podcasts
Once a DYI affair , podcasts are a flourishing part of the audio industry By Michael Raine From the New York Times ’ The Daily to CBC Podcasts ’ Someone Knows Something and countless more hit shows , podcasts are now as much a part of the cultural landscape as TV and movies . As such , the era of podcasts being a DIY hobby recorded in a host ’ s garage ( not that there ’ s anything wrong with that , Marc Maron ) has passed . We ’ re now firmly in the era of professionally-recorded and produced podcasts . But even looking beyond media heavyweights like the New York Times or CBC , or startups flush with Spotify ’ s cash , the independent podcasts are still upping their production game considerably . So , with all this said , what goes into making a proper-sounding podcast ?

The Opera House
Revitalizing a Legend By Andrew Leyenhorst Toronto ’ s Opera House , opened in 1909 , is one of Canada ’ s most esteemed venues ; a home for music and the arts at large for over a century , it continues to stand as an iconic fixture in the city and as a symbol of Toronto ’ s creative heritage . While the building currently serves as “ The Hub ,” a full-service broadcast and content creation space , the venue has also used their downtime from live performances to prepare for the future with a revitalized sound reinforcement suite by

The next generation of recording icons is well on its way By Andrew Leyenhorst “ Rock and roll ain ’ t gonna die ,” sang Brian Johnson back in 1980 . Luckily for us all , it still hasn ’ t . It ’ s taken on many different forms since those days , but the truth of the matter is that there will always be a place in the world for heavy music ; and wherever you find heavy music , especially nowadays , you ’ re bound to come across some of the most talented producers , engineers , and mixers in the game . Professional Sound chats with Sam Guaiana , whose work with artists including Silverstein , Like Pacific , Rarity ,
