Sean Martin Joins AES as International Sales Manager
The Audio Engineering Society ( AES ) has welcomed Sean Martin to the staff as its international sales manager . It says this
SEAN MARTIN underscores the society ’ s momentum as the industry recovery begins and events and businesses are able to progress toward post-pandemic activity , alongside the AES ’ s commitment to build upon the success and value of its online events .
Martin will be responsible for event sales , sustaining memberships , AES ’ s Audio Product Education Institute ( APEI ) sponsorships , e-library subscriptions , and working with AES Standards Sustainers . He will report to AES Director of Sales and Marketing , Graham Kirk .
Starting his career with London ’ s Court Acoustics , Martin has held international sales and businesses development roles with professional audio manufacturers such as JBL , Tannoy , EAW , Bose , and Turbosound .
“ Throughout my career ,” says Martin , “ I ’ ve seen the ubiquitous impact of the Audio Engineering Society ’ s rich legacy of driving audio technology forward while providing a foundation of standards that benefit audio professionals globally , daily . AES Virtual 2021 Spring Convention Offers 4 Days of Insights
The Audio Engineer Society ’ s spring 2021 convention opened its virtual doors from May 25 – 28 , once again offering attendees a comprehensive way to listen , learn , and connect with audio peers and professionals from around the world .
Across the four days of the online convention , there were 65 workshops and panel discussions , as well as eight Tech Tours presented in 72 hours of scheduled streaming sessions across two channels . A Zoom room was filled with Q & A and interactive dialog sessions , and Discord was deployed to provide the convention ’ s social networking component . As well , there were 67 papers and engineering briefs that provided another 15 hours of on-demand content , and all streamed sessions will now join the AES ’ s on-demand content catalog .
The virtual convention highlighted 213 of the brightest names in audio engineering – from keynote addresses by Eelco Grimm , Marina Bosi , and Lenise Bent , to the Heyser Lecture with Diana Deutsch , Grammy-winning artist Laurie Anderson , audio pioneer , technologist , and Grammy-winner George Massenburg , Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Hank Shocklee , and many more .

d & b Celebrates Its 40 th Anniversary ; Establishes Separate ‘ Solutions ’ Business
German loudspeaker manufacturer d & b audiotechnik is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2021 . The company was founded by Jürgen Daubert and Rolf Belz in a small German village on April 18 , 1981 .
“ Daubert and Belz believed that sound had the power to transform an otherwise ordinary space into something special . And now , 40 years later , this belief is still intrinsic to everything we do at d & b ,” says d & b CEO Amnon Harman in an open letter published to commemorate the anniversary . Elsewhere in the letter , Harman says the two driving beliefs for the company have been “ democracy for listeners ,” which means that all audiences members , regardless of location in a venue , deserve high-quality sound ; and the second belief being that loudspeakers and electronics should be built systematically .

In other d & b news , the company has established of a new service-focused business entity called d & b Solutions GmbH & Co . KG . The company says it will enable d & b to offer end-to-end expertise in the areas of project development , manufacturing , system planning , installation , and maintenance . The announcement is supported by the immediate acquisition of U . K . -based multidisciplinary AV provider , SFL Group . d & b solutions will focus on delivering a higher level of service and integration , and end-to-end installation and production solutions to customers . The newly-formed entity will act independently from d & b audiotechnik , with both having separate , independent business structures reporting up to the d & b Group . The managing directors for d & b solutions are Amnon Harman ( d & b Group CEO ), Jens Nilsson ( d & b Group CFO ), and Michael Aldinger ( d & b solutions director , finance and operations ).
