PROJECT FILE Oilers Entertainment Group has invested in a new sound system from d&b audiotechnik for Rogers Place in Edmonton, home to the NHL’s Oilers. Canadian acoustic consultancy Orchestral Arts Inc. (OAi) was also tapped for the project. To alleviate undesirable reflections, the main seating bowl has a number of acoustical features including acoustically padded seats, ceiling deck and side wall baffle suspensions, sound attenuating material at locations around the high bowl, and a custom solution for the Loge Level seating ring. The package includes 10 d&b V-Series line arrays arranged around the bowl. Specifically, the Vi8 installation version was used to shape the main arrays, with three cardioid Vi-SUBs behind each, all powered by D80 amplifiers. d&b Yi10P point source loudspeak- ers were used for delays for the upper concourse seating and press boxes, as well as fill speakers for seating immediately bordering the mid bowl dasher boards. For Canadian icon Celine Dion’s residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where she has done well over 1,000 sold-out performances since 2003, Sound System Engineer Francois “Frankie” Desjardins and FOH Mixer/Tour Manager Denis Savage rely on a selection of more than 40 microphones from DPA. Those include Dion’s three d:facto FA4018V vocal microphones and another four for the backup singers and guests, two d:dicate 2011A twin diaphragm cardioid microphones on the snare drums, 19 d:vote 4099 mics for the strings and brass sections, eight d:screet 4091 omnidirectional microphones for the sound system analyzer, two d:dicate 4007 omnidirectional microphones for sound system tuning, and six d:screet 4061 miniature omnidirectional micro- phones for the crowd under the balcony. Tiesto at ISY Music Festival Some of the biggest names in EDM, including Martin Garrix, Tiesto, Afrojack, Hardwell, R3hab, and more, took the stage for China’s ISY Music Festival in March 2018. An expansive E-Series sound system from Adamson Systems Engineering blasted out the beats for the 60,000 fans in the main venue and also kept the artists in the mix with an S-Series monitor solution in the DJ booth. The system included main hangs of 21 Adamson E15 three- way, true line source enclosures per side, with an additional nine per side for side fills. The E15’s long throw capabilities meant no delays were required for the main audience area, though arrays of four Adamson S10 compact two-way, full range cabinets covered the VIP sections. Arrays of nine E219 subs were flown behind the mains with an additional 18 E219s per side groundstacked in six clusters of three and 12 T21s stacked in six pairs. Adamson also provided the reference mix for the performers, with the DJ booth monitor solu- tion comprised of four S10s atop two S119 subwoofers per side. 62 PROFESSIONAL SOUND The Royal Theatre in Victoria, BC has welcomed some of the world’s greatest performers to its stage, from Luciano Pavarotti to Crosby, Stills & Nash.
