GerrAudio Demo Days Returned in Toronto in December
GerrAudio Distribution hosted its 11 th Demo Days in Toronto on Dec . 14 and 15 , featuring training , networking opportunities , and product demonstrations , as well as educational seminars for audio professionals and sound enthusiasts .
With exhibitors including Lectrosonics , DPA Microphones , DiGiCo , Meyer Sound , Synthax , ASI Audio , and more , there was lots to see , hear , and learn . The two-day event included DiGiCo SD and Quantum-series training with DiGiCo ProductSpecialist Dave Bigg , as well as demonstrations with representatives from several other companies with products on display . Among these were a lesson in mic techniques with DPA Microphones ’ Paul Andrews , a seminar on recording and playback techniques with RME / Synthax ’ s Derek Badala , a presentation on stereo imaging with Lectrosonics ’ new Lectro M2Ra Duet IEM / IFB system by Lectrosonics Canada ’ s Colin Bernard , as well as offerings from Meyer Sound ’ s Josh Dorn-Ferhman and Bob McCarthy on real-world application of Milan in live sound and theory and application of 3D designing , respectively .
Aside from these seminars , attendees were able to freely walk around and check out products on display , while chatting with the company representatives .
RIP : Audio Engineer Bob Shindle has Died
Accomplished audio engineer Bob Shindle has passed away . Shindle died peacefully on Jan . 17 , 2023 at Toronto ’ s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre after a courageous battle with cancer .
Shindle is dearly missed by his partner and best friend , Birgit Roth-Shindle , and his children , Rachael ( Simone Bozzetto ) and Jason Shindle . He is survived by his brothers , Bill ( Glenda ) and Don ( Peta ), nieces and nephews , Kristine , Steve , Collin , Carly , Stefan ( Keira ), Ellen , and Lily , as well as cousin Colleen ( Grant ), and mother-inlaw Mary Moffatt . Shindle is predeceased by his parents , William Sr . and Lily .
Shindle ’ s passion was sound engineering , and during a long and successful career , he worked with many renowned acts including Kim Mitchell , Jeff Healey , Tom Cochrane and Red Rider , and Colin James . Shindle also lent his talents to musicals such as Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , Mamma Mia , and The Who ’ s Tommy .

Shindle ’ s family has asked those who wish to make a donation to give to Princess Margaret Hospital , in honour of Shindle , saying “ the doctors , nurses and support staff were so incredibly kind to him throughout his stay and treated him with nothing but the dignity and love that he deserved .”

Number 9 Audio in Toronto , suffered a terrible fire in December . Owner George Rondina has been a major contributor to the Canadian music industry and has recorded some of Canada ’ s most successful artists .
Since 1981 , Number 9 has been recording great Canadian artists like The Barenaked Ladies , David Clayton-Thomas , Amanda Marshall , Natalie MacMaster , Lawrence Gowan , Sarah Polley (“ The Sweet Hereafter ” soundtrack ), Brent Carver , Rufus Wainwright , and many many more . The studio has also been a vital source of rental gear to producers and other studios for decades , and supplied equipment to The Rolling Stones , Pink Floyd , Art Garfunkel , and Van Morrison .
