Avid Hybrid Engine for Pro Tools | HDX Systems
Avid has released the Hybrid Engine for HDX . This intelligent hardware-software integration , which was introduced along with Pro Tools | Carbon , lets users move seamlessly between DSP and native processing .
Without the Hybrid Engine , HDX does the heavy lifting for mixer functions and DSP tasks . Apart from native plug-ins , which run on the host computer , an entire Pro Tools session is handled by its 18 DSP cores and two high-performance FPGA chips . The power of HDX is that it nearly eliminates recording latency and delivers deterministic , reliable performance . But “ determinism ” also means a hard voice limit that puts a cap on session size . For users that work with high track counts and plug-in-heavy sessions , this can be constraining . Also , HDX can be inefficient when using native and DSP plug-ins on the same track . By contrast , the Hybrid Engine splits processing between DSP and native mix engines . It runs the session on the host computer , taking advantage of its robust computing power . Then , when the users need to supplement their CPU or record with near-zero latency , it gives them immediate access to HDX ’ s onboard DSP .

RME Fireface UCX II USB Audio Interface
RME has launched the Fireface UCX II USB audio interface , which is the successor of the Fireface UCX . Featuring 40 I / O channels as well as a variety of applications , the Fireface UCX II marks a new standard in the company ’ s professional audio interface solutions within a compact half-rack size .
The Fireface UCX II boasts up to 20 recording and 20 playback channels , SteadyClock FS , high-performance microphone inputs , built-in parametric EQ , USB direct recording , plus full stand-alone functionality . It houses two mic / line preamps in XLR combo configuration on the front panel , along with two digitally-controlled line / instrument inputs , followed by a headphone jack , various control buttons , a display , and the main volume knob .
At the rear is a set of 10 analog balanced line inputs and outputs , MIDI I / O , ADAT I / O , AES / EBU and SPDIF I / O , USB 2.0 , as well as a switchable word clock I / O . Thanks to the digital DURec ( direct USB recording ) functionality , any input or output of the Fireface UCX II can be recorded directly to a USB storage device . Therefore , DURec uses the integrated DSP that provides stand-alone operation without the need for a computer .

Sennheiser Evolution Wireless Digital UHF Transmitters
Sennheiser has launched the Evolution Wireless Digital series of digital UHF wireless systems .
This line includes the EW-D EM receiver , the EW-D SKM-S handheld transmitter for Sennheiser capsule modules , and the EW-D SK bodypack transmitter . The Evolution Wireless Digital series offers digital transmission operating in the UHF spectrum , which greatly enhances range , reliability , and scalability , according to the company . 134 dB of audio input dynamic range is available , while elimination of intermodulation enables wireless channels to be placed in an equidistant tuning grid up to 600 kHz apart ; 56 MHz of tuning bandwidth and equidistant spacing enables up to 90 channels , with 2,240 selectable frequencies to allow for fine tuning .
Operation is streamlined through the Sennheiser Smart Assist app , which connects to the systems via Bluetooth and allows for full control at a distance from your mobile device , while auto scan creates reliable connections between components with minimal time and effort . A lithium-ion battery pack ( sold separately ) delivers up to 12 hours of operation , with the provided AA batteries offering up to eight hours of running time .
