oah Mintz is a senior mastering engineer and owner of Toronto’s Lacquer Channel Mastering, one of the
country’s top mastering studios. In his 20-plus years as a professional mastering engineer, he’s amassed
an impressive list of credits that spans genres and eras.
He’s also a regular contributor to Professional Sound, offering candid and compelling takes on top-
ical issues relating to mastering and audio production in general. Because of that, we decided to check
in with him to follow up on some of those topics – like the proliferation of “auto-mastering” services or
his “less is more” approach to his art – while also getting a lay of the land of the professional mastering
industry in Canada from one of its best and busiest stalwarts.
