B ,” says Bissonnette . “ And now we ’ re up to eight studios and one media room where we collect all the data and send back the final materials to our clients .”
Brown decided to retire in 1998 and Bissonnette jumped at the opportunity to purchase some of his shares and become a part owner in the business . That ’ s also when Rodrigue started transitioning into the administrative and managerial role , allowing Bissonnette to essentially head up the technical operations himself and oversee new equipment purchases and technical infrastructure upgrades in addition to taking the lead technical role on many of the studio ’ s bigger projects .
Then , in 2009 , Rodrigue decided to exit the business , leaving a vacancy on the operations side that would attract industry veteran François Deschamps to SPR .
Deschamps began his pro audio career in the mid- ‘ 80s as an engineer at Montreal ’ s Studio Tempo before transitioning into the post-production world at Studios Cinar ’ s brand new facility in 1988 .
“ After four years there , I was basically in charge of the facility ,” Deschamps shares . “ I changed my focus from sitting at the mix to managing the postproduction progress and the facility and people .”
He worked his way up to the role of executive VP at Cinar early in the 2000s before moving to Technicolor ’ s Montreal facility . In 2005 , he was promoted to a management role for all of Technicolor Canada , overseeing its handful of offices across the country . “ So I went from being the guy behind the board working with music and sound to a mostly management role ,” Deschamps says . “ I was far removed from the clients and daily activities , and it felt like I was more in the financial business than the audio business .”
Wanting to realign with the passion that propelled him into this career in the first place , Deschamps amicably parted ways with Techicolor Canada and became a co-owner of SPR . He had experience working with the studio
