The steel frame you see in this photo is the main front desk . It is quite large ( approximately 8 x 3.5 ft .). Every space of this desk has been accounted for with gear , as well as practicality of use . The desk is deep , but not deep enough that I can ’ t reach the top portion of the racks . The reason for a steel frame and not wood is that it can withstand the weight of all of the gear and also all of the cabling inside of it . I also wanted to be able to have sound pass through the open sides of the desk instead of creating any sort of drum head effect by using wood panelling . The sides will be either filled with gear on the front and top , while the rear and sides of the desk will have fabric wrapped around a wood frame . Also , all of the side and rear panels will be removable in order to easily access and replace / repair / maintain the cabling found within the desk . The rear producer desk is also a steel frame but is just a rectangular box that will have a countertop for artists and clients to work on .
Teofilo : The control room is the heart of every studio and so the design of this room is even more crucial than any of the others . Every wall is angled in this room and even the ceiling has multiple angles . The back of the room has a more gentle slope in the ceiling , which gets more severe towards the front . The angles help with cutting down on any standing waves within the room . Acoustic treatment will also be added to the front and rear walls , and the entire ceiling will be covered . The plywood strapping around the pot lights is there to create a 3 / 4-in . gap between the ceiling and the acoustic material to create an air gap . This air gap makes sound treatment more effective .
In this photo you are looking at the front of the control room . In the centre is the frame where the glass will sit . On either side of the glass are wooden boxes where each of the ATC SCM150 monitors will sit . On the floor you can see plastic covering openings in the floor . This is where the main desk will sit ( in the front ) and the producer ’ s desk will sit ( at the rear ) with pre-run cables coming up through the troughing that sits under the plywood .
Teofilo : The finished flooring is a white oak engineered hardwood . The boards are placed vertically to elongate the feel of the rooms . In this photo , you are looking through the window frame from the live room back into the control room . You will see that there is a ½ inch gap between the finished floor as well as between the two black frames . This is the separation of both rooms . The separation has to be there always in order to have proper isolation between rooms . The only item that connects the two rooms is the black plastic in between the two floors . This is to stop any dust from coming up between the two panels of glass . The glass sits in the black aluminum tracks on either floor . Once the glass goes in , the space in between will never be able to be cleaned , fixed , or painted ever again , so it ’ s crucial that the ½ inch gap is sealed all the way around the opening in between . The installer had to make many angled cuts in order to line up the floor perfectly .
