CATWALK +
Scott Taylor is the founder of Taylored Sound and one of Toronto ’ s most in-demand location sound professionals . Central to Taylor ’ s rig is Lectrosonics ’ Digital Hybrid Wireless technology , specifically a dualchannel SRb receiver and two SRc receivers . The SRc units are paired with a total of four LT belt-pack transmitters ( two each on blocks A1 and B1 ), while the SRb picks up the signal from a pair of SMQV transmitters on block 21 .
“ I ’ m currently doing a lot with SportsNet , TSN , and ESPN , such as pre-game interviews and things of that nature . Between those and commercials , I am working about three to six jobs per week in the Toronto area alone ,” says Taylor , a 2010 graduate of the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology . “ If we ’ re shooting in an area where I ’ m not familiar with the RF profile , it ’ s always easy to roll up , scan , and find clean channels without interference or dropouts … Most of the time , once I get a pair of frequencies on block 21 up , I don ’ t need to change them . Together with the SMQVs , the SRb gets most of the dialogue . It was actually the first piece of Lectrosonics gear I bought and it ’ s still going strong . I use the LT / SRc combos as stereo pairs for plant mics and room mics . I just used two LTs on either side of a pipe organ for a virtual convocation ceremony at the University of Toronto .”

SCOTT TAYLOR
As one of the top party destinations in Guangzhou , China , Catwalk Disco and Club has carved out a reputation for an opulent , over-the-top guest experience . So , when its ownership group decided to open a sister venue dubbed Catwalk + in August 2021 , they turned to Calgary-based manufacturer PK Sound and its exclusive Chinese distributor , Polar Audio .
“ As the number one nightclub in Guangzhou and a destination for international performers and partygoers , we need to offer a world-class experience unlike any other ,” says club designer Cheng Jiheng on behalf of owners Guangdong Haiwo Cultural Development Group . “ PK Sound ’ s Trinity series is a global leader when it comes to innovative and impactful audio technologies , which we ’ re proud to now offer to our patrons in the brand-new Catwalk +.”
The system is anchored by PK Sound ’ s Trinity Install and T10 Install line source elements , which offer the company ’ s robotically-controlled Trinity and T10 modules in sleek , architecturallyfriendly enclosures . The main left-right arrays flanking the stage comprise four Trinity Installs over four T10 Installs per side , with two smaller arrays of four T10 Installs each serving as delays midway through the hall . Low-end reinforcement is primarily handled by eight G218 Install and two G30 Install subwoofers , with an additional six CX800 subs strewn throughout the venue for support . A complement of CX215 point-source cabinets and K218 subwoofers comprise monitoring for the DJ booth and supplemental fills for adjacent spaces .
DAN + SHAY
When three-time Grammy Award-winning country duo Dan + Shay hit the road in March of 2020 for their first headlining U . S . arena tour , they played three consecutive sold-out shows . Then COVID struck , grinding the trek to a sudden halt . A year and a half later , the highly-anticipated tour finally picked back up , rescheduling and resuming the 30 remaining sold-out shows on the three-month run , which carried an L-Acoustics K Series loudspeaker system supplied by technical solutions provider PRG .
“ This was our first tour with PRG , and as soon as I knew that they ’ d be our touring partner , I went to our production manager and said , ‘ Hey , if we can have it , we ’ d love to be on an L-Acoustics rig ,’” shares Taylor Bray , who has been Dan + Shay ’ s FOH engineer for the past eight years . “ I ’ ve mixed our artists on a lot of different systems , but some of the best shows have been on these big festivals with huge L-Acoustics PAs where we ’ d walk up with no soundcheck — line check only — do the show , and then afterward think , ‘ Damn , that felt good !’”
