The main PA consists of eight d & b J Series loudspeakers per side , powered in pairs by d & b D12 amps . For low end , 10 J subs are placed in bays under the stage , in an arc array configuration ( two per bay ).
For front fill , two d & b Q7s are flown above the stage . “ They ’ re pretty much in line with the main system , but a little bit further upstage and pointed down on quite a sharp angle so they hit the area at the front of the stage ,” Halliwell explains . “ The stage is not that high so you ’ d lose the front fills if you put them on the stage . So , we got them up and out of the way . Then we have four d & b E12s for under-balcony fill at the back of the venue .”
Finally , an additional Q7 was used to address a dead spot on the mezzanine , Gardner explains : “ Because the stage isn ’ t centred in the room , to the house right we had a bit of a dead spot up in our accessible seating area . Now , people who are on that side are getting the full experience that everyone who ’ s standing in front of the full PA in the middle of the room are getting .”
Again , for rider friendliness and to ensure a matching sonic signature , d & b loudspeakers and an Avid Profile were specified for monitors . There they have : 12 M4 wedges ; one Q sub drum monitor , four d & b Q Series , and four Q Series subs ground-stacked for side-stage fill , all powered by d & b D12 amplifiers .
Similar considerations guided the choice of elements for the in-house microphone package – a mix of Shure , Sennheiser , and Audio-Technica units . “ Again , many headliners carry their own mics , so they ’ ll probably get used for primarily for support acts and corporate events ,” notes Gardner . “ Everything – the console , drive rack , and monitor system , is like a touring package . And , if an engineer is using the console and has a Waves licence , all of that is available . It ’ s the type of club where a lot of artists will bring their own console packages , so we wanted to have something easy to move in and out , even on a daily basis – something that wasn ’ t a fixed install in terms of the consoles .”
Basically , for anyone coming in , it ’ s plugand-play , he adds : “ They hand us their lines and have access to the full system and we have a computer at FOH that ’ s controlling all of the processing and the tour or event has access to all of that . We have a three-way split so if they ’ re using the house equipment we can send them a set of XLR feeds so they can record individual channels . Or we can put a truck in our loading dock .”
Being purpose-built for shows from the outset made hanging the PA in an optimal configuration easier , Halliwell notes : “ It ’ s a left-right hang and we were able to get it up fairly high . There was a separate contract to put in the rigging points and they were able to get them right up against the roof . And , with some inverted motors , we got really good trim height on the PA .”
