Professional Lighting & Production - Winter 2018 | Page 17
Montreal-based stage lighting specialist Lumin-ART
Productions, led by founder Simon Gauthier, lit up one
of Europe’s most iconic ancient monuments, the Roman
Colosseum, for the Sangue e Arena (Blood and Arena).
Using VR technology, the show brings to life the gladia-
torial duels, staged animal fights, naval battles, gruesome
public executions, and some of the engineering feats of
the Roman era. As lighting designer, Gauthier took care of
designing, programming, and bringing forth the lighting
aspects of the production. He teamed up with Graph-
ics eMotion to project historically accurate animated
pictures and 2D/3D models on the outer and inner walls
of the Colosseum, as well as on a see-through, 18 x 4-m
hologrammatic screen. The experience is compound-
ed by lighting and sound effects, as well as narration in
both Italian and English.
Montreal-based multimedia
studio Moment Factory
played a key role in crafting
a 1-km-long nighttime path
at the Singapore Zoo called
Rainforest Lumina. This
“magical path” immerses
visitors into simulated rain-
forest landscapes, complete
with a shimmering island,
cavernous hills, and virtual
animals. Approximately
100 team members from
Moment Factory, along
with 200 people from local
partners, worked over nine
months to bring the project to fruition. Moment Factory deployed 175 COLORado 1 Solo and 147 COLORado 2
Solo fixtures from Chauvet Professional, plus video projection effects, to realize the experience.
