Project Update
The League of Legends World Championship 2020 Finals took place in February at Shanghai ’ s Pudong Football Stadium . The esports event was organized by Riot Games and ConCom Inc . and broadcast across 21 platforms . The lighting for the event was supplied by GLP , whose JDC1 fixtures backlit the two 18-m . x 32-m . screens on which the gameplay was displayed , as well as highlighting a 33-m . -high , 65-tonne Chinese Paifang arch for the opening ceremony . The arena , with a regular capacity of 33,765 , held a socially-distanced crowd of 6000 people .
Each JDC1 module contains a traditional single tube element with a bright white output and combines that with a surrounding full face of RGB LED power , using 1,320 LEDs . The event used 888 JDC1s , with 540 distributed across the deck and the remaining 348 lining the arch . All the pieces were sourced from Christie Lites , and supplied via main contractors , CT Asia Pacific .

Brussels ’ “ Laser Lights ” New Years show featured Robe moving lights , as well as 12 custom lasers . The event was held at the Heysel Plateau in Brussels , but was presented virtually for “ attendees ” to enjoy from their homes . Since the event had to be adapted for these different times , the fireworks show that usually takes place around the city ’ s Atomium sculpture was replaced with a “ laser web ,” connecting the tallest building in Brussels with lasers , as a way to symbolize the reinforcements of the bonds between districts and communities in Brussels , especially amidst today ’ s challenging circumstances .
One of the show ’ s main events was a 165-metre-long , 20-metre-high tightrope walk between Palais 2 and Palais 10 on the Heysel Plateau , performed by Johanne Humblet from Les Filles du Renard Pale . The core of the lighting rig for the tightrope walk consisted of 50 Robe MegaPointes and 25 Robe Spiider LED wash beams .
On November 8 , 2020 , rock band Dance Gavin Dance performed their new album Tree City Sessions 2 in its entirety on Tower Bridge in Sacramento , California . The PPV concert was executive produced by Danny Wimmer Presents and lit by Justin Wade and Sacramento Production & Lighting ( SPL ), using a rig of Elation Professional luminaires .
The circular stage was surrounded by a ground-based square of 20 Platinum 5R Extreme beam moving heads and 16 Platinum FLX hybrid moving heads . The setup required something bright that wouldn ’ t get lost under the city ’ s ambient light , and Elation ’ s 5Rs and FLXs served that purpose . Some more key components of the light show were a circle of Fuze Wash Z350 single source par moving heads in the centre of the stage as a backlight , as well as a series of Colour Chorus 48 battens , Platinum 1200 Wash moving heads , and additional Fuze 350s and FLXs to light the architecture going up and down the bridge .
Nearly 500 Astera AX3 LightDrop wireless battery-powered LED fixtures were utilised for a show-stopping Weihnachtsshow ( Christmas Show ) special broadcast by Helene Fischer , a popular German singer and dancer . The show was filmed at Halle 6 of Dusseldorf Messe and broadcast on Christmas Day , 2020 . Lighting Director Tim Routledge designed the light show to complement the three-camera setup , which consisted of two Steadicams and a drone .
The absence of an audience created a need for additional lighting to capture the right atmosphere , which was achieved with the help of 496 Astera AX3 fixtures , all fitted with their frosted semi-sphere domes . The AX3s were arranged in eight radials or ‘ spokes ’ reaching out from centre position where Helene Fischer stood , lit from above with eight profile moving lights .
