HOW LDs ARE STAYING INFORMED AND INSPIRED

It ’ s

been a long and trying year for everyone , but especially for those who work in the live events industries . Men and women across the live lighting , video , and sound fields who would normally find it hard to get a week or two to themselves , or to relax and spend with friends and family , suddenly had nothing on the calendar . Or , when they did have jobs on the calendar , there is constant uncertainty about whether it ’ ll actually happen . Such a situation can be emotionally draining and professionally demotivating . With this tough situation in mind , for our annual panel of lighting designers and directors , we wanted to find out how people are managing to stay inspired and motivated through the live event shutdowns . What we heard back are some wonderful examples of professional perseverance and adaptation , personal realizations , and some interesting and inspiring creative tips , though of course it ’ s not all roses and riches .
