Product Knowledge Paul Mitchell Blonde Synchrolift FAQ

SYNCHROLIFT ® + & SYNCHROLIFT ® FAQ What is the difference between the new 1. enhanced SynchroLift ® + and the previous SynchroLift ® Lightener? The previous SynchroLift ® provided up to 7 levels of lift, while the newly enhanced SynchroLift ® + provides up to 9 levels of lift. Additionally, SynchroLift ® + is formulated with shea oil and has an optimized ratio of persulfates for a “clearer” lift. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. What are the main uses for SynchroLift ® +? SynchroLift ® + Ultra-Quick Blue Powder Lightener is ideal for on-scalp or double process blonding or off-scalp techniques, including foil highlighting, hand-painting and color correction. Why is it important to measure the developer and not “free pour” when mixing SynchroLift ® + and SynchroLift ® Soft? Product performance is tested and optimized at a specific mixing ratio. Failing to measure creates an imbalance between the lifting agents and the developer, which could result in slight swelling or puffing in the bowl. Additionally, free pouring may yield unpredictable results, particularly with subsequent services. If swelling in the bowl is present, simply whisk or stir the mixture to release the lifting agents/gases and continue using your lightener formula. What is the mixing ratio for SynchroLift ® +? The recommended mixing ratio is 1:2 (powder to developer). Combine 1 well-rounded scoop of SynchroLift ® + with 2 oz. of Paul Mitchell ® Cream Developer and mix well into a creamy consistency. We do not recommend exceeding 20 volume developer when doing on-scalp applications. What is the mixing ratio for SynchroLift ® Soft? To accommodate both on- and off-scalp applications, SynchroLift ® Soft is formulated as a variable mixing ratio lightener. On-scalp is 1:1.5 - 1 oz. SynchroLift ® Soft + 1.5 oz. Paul Mitchell ® Cream Developer Off-scalp is 1:1 - 1 oz. SynchroLift ® Soft + 1 oz. Paul Mitchell ® Cream Developer SOFT How does new SynchroLift ® Soft compare to Lighten Up ® ? They are two completely different formulas. SynchroLift ® Soft has a cream base that delivers an optimized ratio of persulfates to lift up to 7 levels, whereas Lighten Up ® blonding paste only lightens up to 5 levels. SynchroLift ® Soft leaves the hair feeling more conditioned. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. Does Paul Mitchell ® recommend an external heat source (hood dryer, rollerball or lights, etc.) when processing its lighteners? No, an external heat source is not recommended. Paul Mitchell ® lightening products are tested at room temperature and remain stable throughout roomtemperature processing. Is a plastic cap to cover the hair or head recommended when processing on- or off-scalp lightener? No. Paul Mitchell ® does not recommend using a cap because it could increase the temperature and fail to effectively liberate the lifting agents. Additionally, a cap could affect processing time. If stylists are accustomed to the results achieved with the previous SynchroLift ® formula, can they expect a different performance with new SynchroLift ® +? Yes. New SynchroLift ® + has an optimized ratio of persulfates in order to provide faster, cleaner lightening action. The addition of shea oil allows for a creamier product, which is easier to mix and apply. What is the average pH of hair lighteners, and how does this compare to Paul Mitchell ® lighteners? Most bleach lighteners have a pH of around 10-11, including Paul Mitchell ® lighteners. Paul Mitchell ® lighteners are also formulated with buffering agents for optimal performance. Can I use a Paul Mitchell ® lightener the same day as a chemical relaxer or texturizing service? No. Paul Mitchell ® recommends waiting two weeks after any lightening service before performing a relaxing service. Use discretion when lightening hair that may be sensitized. Should I shampoo my client’s hair before a lightening service? In order to protect the scalp, clients who are having an on-scalp lightening service should not wash their hair for 2 days prior to the service. For all other applications, use your discretion if the hair needs to be shampooed.
