Bonny Island Marathon is a premium and undoubtedly the biggest sports, tourism, and entertainment event in Bonny Island, Rivers State. This event is poised to grow into a renowned sports event in Nigeria and Africa in years to come.
The second edition was held on December 7, 2019, with "Racing for Unity" as the official theme. This theme was adopted based on societal realities which are relevant in today's world. It was a 20 kilometres race which started at the Finima Stadium and ended at BYF Secretariat, Berger bypass road, Bonny. The Marathon recorded 3,000 plus participants, from the elite and leisure runners to volunteers, medical & traffic officials, corps members, security personnel and the media team. The race lasted for about 3hr 43mins.
The maiden edition of the Bonny Island Marathon which held on the 15th of December 2018, covered 15 kilometres and drew over 1,500 participants across 18 states of the federation. Special thanks to Boma Halliday who is the convener of the Bonny Island Marathon.
