Abinye, the Word Champ!

On the day of the event, I left home with a very calm (I’m actually a very calm person) and relaxed attitude and that got my parents worried because they interpreted my attitude for a lack of competitive spirit but deep inside I was very anxious but I wasn’t afraid.

I don’t know how I was able to keep my composure under so much pressure but I did and that helped me to spell my words confidently and correctly.

When I was declared as the winner of the spelling bee competition, I was completely stunned because I never imagined that I would get to the top 3 talk more of winning. I was so overwhelmed with joy and I was completely speechless. I even ended up looking dazed in most of the pictures because I really couldn’t believe it. Winning this competition has been a very high point for me. I’m very grateful that out of the 67 participants, I emerged the winner.

I’m also grateful to the Youth Resource Centre for putting together a competition like this to encourage students like me that with determination and the right attitude anything can be achieved. I’m already preparing for the next spelling bee because I plan to maintain my position as the spelling Champion on the Island.
