One of the best works by Edel is the three-story apartment building of Mitrofanov , 1903 , occupies a dominant place among the surrounding buildings and characterized by a monumental volumetric-spatial solution that successfully emphasizes its angular position ( Figure 8 ). The horizontalness of the volume is divided into a series of vertical lines that visually balance the overall structure of the building , emphasized by the rhythm of the window openings . Order system with all the elements of classical forms were used in the architecture of the building . A residential building with many balconies of various types , rich of sculptural elements played the important place in the the historical center of Baku . Along with a luxurious architectural palette , the use of decorative sculpture with many forms and techniques attracts attention in the artistic solution of the facades . All this is carved in stone , the architectural details are brought to perfection ( Fatullayev-Figarov , Sh . S ., 1998 ).

S ., 1998 ). These arches are the main elements that reveal the originality of local architectural traditions and their sustainability at the turn of the 19 th -20 th centuries .
