Vivacious Vandana Luthra
A slimming Diva - Shaping the confidence of many
By Hina Navin
To turn their negatives
into positives takes time
and our counsellors play
an important part in this
direction. Counselling
helps us in building a
sound relationship with
our client, understanding
their concerns and
handling them in a very
professional, yet friendly
and warm way, which
is an art in VLCC. We
encourage them to
believe that they can do
it for themselves and our
customers go in for the
program to achieve the
desired results.”
Today, VLCC is a pan
Indian brand with nearly
150 centres in India. It
has 7-centres in the UAE
and 1 centre in Oman,
“Shaping the Confidence”
of more than six hundred
thousand satisfied clients
in their journey over
the last 16 years. Their
future-plan is to focus
on international business
with centres in UK, Egypt
and many other parts of
the world. Reflecting her
steadfast commitment
and entrepreneurial
effort, Vandana has
over the years, received
a host of awards for
excellence and women
entrepreneurship.
Some of them include

The Institute for

(IMM) - Award for the
Woman Entrepreneur of
the Year 2004 Whirlpool/
Gr8 Magazine - Award for
the Woman Entrepreneur
of the Year 2004 Vandana
believes in the power
within oneself – both its
undeniable presence and
its omnipotence. It is this
universal c oncept that
has driven her in every
sphere of her life – be
it business, where that
very faith determines
every satisfied customer
looking to transform their
self, or be it life – where
she sees the potential in
every human being and
strives hard to give a
helping hand.
Empowerment of
women has been a cause
close to Vandana’s
heart. Over 70% of VLCC
employees are women.
She says, “I think it is
very important for every
woman to be empowered;
they already are very
powerful for no house can
run without the woman.”
She believes, “The real
power of money is the
power to give it away.”
She is inspired by JRD
Tata’s philosophy who
said, “If you make lots of
money, you must give it
back to society as you
have received so much
love from it.”
Vandana says, “JRD
Tata is the man we all
look upon, as an ideal.
He is a giver in both his
personal and professional
life that is what I admire
about him.”
“We are all
professionals but a
professional should have
a balance between the
heart and the head.
You cannot be working
thinking about yourself
alone; you have to
think about others. The
corporate that works
without a heart is not
a corporate. JRD Tata
is a good example of a
professional person with
the right balance.”
Vandana has actively
pursued her passion for
sharing, by setting up the
VLCC Foundation that has
an objective of supporting
the under-privileged and
creating opportunities
for empowering women.
She says, “I work for
NGOs called Khushi and
Amar Jyoti, wherein we
empower the women
and the youth of the
country. The youth is the
future of our country
and vocational training
is important for them,
it empowers them. We
run about 10 training
institutes in Nimrana that
caters to more than 80
villages wherein, women
are trained in skin care,
hair dressing, hair styling
and beauty culture.”
“We have about 30
educational and training
campuses that will help
us in organising the
awareness in the industry
and will create talent for
the industry. We have
institutes that train the
underprivileged, empower
the youth and children
with special needs. We
also have our faculty
teaching on a wheel
chair. They are positive
people making the most
of their lives and are
earning their own living.
They are confident and
they do not feel they are
handicapped in any way.
They have accepted their
life-situation in a positive
manner.”
The VLCC Foundation
also runs a school for the
Blind imparting training
on beauty services and
massage therapies, to
the visually challenged.
She adds, “The blind
school is for training
them in housekeeping jobs
and home facials. We try
to give them skills for a
job they can comfortably
do. When you do not
have eyes, your hands
are your eyes. You work
so beautifully with them
and you are so much
more focused than those
blessed with sight.”
Her message to all
is “Health is the real
wealth and caring for
health is another way
of worshipping God. My
message for women
is that they should be
healthy, fit and should
help in making the
world a more beautiful,
meaningful place to live
in, otherwise the way
obesity is at a rise it has
become a social problem,
which is only because of
bad eating habits and
unhealthy lifestyles.
Women are great
managers and if a woman
is fit than, the family is
fit. I think a woman is
an example and a role
model for a family and for
many others to follow. So
please be fit, look after
yourself and believe in
yourself,” she concludes.
