On 16 December 2012, a 23‐year‐old physiotherapy student was assaulted in a moving bus in Delhi. She fought bravely but the seven perverted men overpowered her. She died, we still await justice. We called her Nirbhaya, we came down on the streets to protest ‐ from India Gate to Gateway of India, from Bhuj to Shillong, from the backwaters of Kerala to Kashmir, people stood up to say,“ this cannot go on”, and in this protest we see hope. As you read this, somewhere in this country another Nirbhaya is putting up a brave but unequal fight. Molestation is not a statistics; it is about a human being to whom the society did not fulfil its promise to provide dignity and esteem. We all stand guilty. In India where woman is venerated as a goddess‐ Durga and Nirbhaya cannot co‐exist.
